Update to El Paso Through Your Eyes 2012 Page

We have updated the El Paso Through Your Eyes page. The event this last weekend was fantastic. Yours truly had a blast competing with my wife all over downtown El Paso, trying to capture just one piece of our beautiful city. We will be posting updates on just how successful the event was later on this week. And we will also be giving you more info on the revealing ceremony as we get closer to it.

On a final note, I want to thank all of the volunteers who made the event saturday amazing. They worked very hard to put together something that had people talking, walking, and enjoying the city of El Paso. Without y'all it would not have been the same. Thank you.

You can see a picture of all of them on our El Paso Through Your Eyes Page. If you'd like to thank them, drop a comment there.

Don't Miss: El Paso's Tom Lea Month

Don't miss: Tom Lea month September 28th - October 31st.

One of El Paso's more famous artists and illustrators, Tom Lea, grew up here and spent a great deal of his life describing the west with his murals, paintings, and illustrations. He also is noted for his contributions as a war reporter during World War II and after as a reporter for Life magazine. After the war he became a prolific writer and painter and spent considerable time in Mexico. During this past Bush administration, one of his paintings hung in the Oval Office, on loan from the El Paso Museum of Art.

You can see the full list of events here: Tom Lea Month 2012

But you can count on there being plenty of tours, lectures, and viewing opportunities throughout El Paso. I'll definitely be heading to a few of them, because it is important for all of us to celebrate examples of the rich talent and landscape we have in the El Paso/Juarez region.

AIA/CEU: Free 1-hr Webinar: Green Technologies and Design Methods for Historic Buildings

AIA/CEU: Dow Corning is sponsoring a free webinar focusing on of course "Green Technologies and Design Methods for Historic Buildings." What does that mean exactly? Well read the registration blurb below. if you are interested.

Thursday, September 27, 2012, 2:00 - 3:00 p.m. ETThe reuse and retrofit of existing buildings are important tools for mitigating global warming.  By some estimates, it can take up to 80 years for a new energy-efficient building to overcome the climate-change impacts created by its construction.  However, greening existing buildings, especially historic ones, presents special challenges.  Strategies like window replacements or recladding can improve thermal performance, but may be at odds with the structure’s character if not carefully executed.  And although new mechanical systems can help an older building meet the comfort expectations of current occupants, such systems are often difficult to insert within historic fabric.  Join our panel of experts as they discuss these issues and identify strategies for the implementation of energy-efficient and historically sensitive building renovations.
Learning Objectives:1. Discuss the environmental value of building reuse and describe methods for quantifying this value.2. Describe the difference between embodied and operational energy.3. Discuss technical and financial obstacles to the energy-efficient retrofit of existing building and identify strategies for overcoming these obstacles.4. Evaluate retrofit options on the basis of environmental performance and historic sensitivity.
